Representatives from Clark Hill will provide one hour of legal advice without charge to each nonprofit organization that is referred to them through the Nonprofit Good Practice Guide. If the referred organization's question requires additional time, Clark Hill will discuss this with the organization at the time of the request. The attorney-client privilege will apply with respect to confidential discussions and most other aspects of the work. Clark Hill PLC is not acting as legal counsel to to Grand Valley State University, the Johnson Center for Philanthropy, or the Nonprofit Good Practice Guide.
Facilities Planning Expert in Residence:
a.j. Veneklasen
Representatives
from a.j. Veneklasen will provide answers to general inquiries related
to facilities planning and development and at the request of the
nonprofit, provide preliminary programming, planning, budgeting, and
conceptual design services under the “Pro-Bono Studio” program.
Additionally, a.j. Veneklasen will assist in evaluating building sites
or existing facilities to help determine a project’s viability.
Nonprofits can use this information in preparation of grant
applications, presentations, marketing collateral and/or loan
applications. The Pro-Bono Studio is a free service to nonprofits and
social based organizations. a.j. Veneklasen is a construction services
company and does not represent the Johnson Center or Grand Valley State
University. All information exchanged will be kept strictly
confidential.

Beene Garter LLP
Representatives from Beene Garter will provide up to one hour of accounting advice without charge to each nonprofit organization that is referred to them through the Nonprofit Good Practice Guide. If the referred organization's question requires additional time, Beene Garter will discuss this with the organization at the time of the request. Beene Garter has served the nonprofit community for over 50 years, providing audit and tax services to over 70 nonprofit organizations in West Michigan. Beene Garter offers a wide array of services, from traditional audit, tax and advisory services to employer support services and wealth management.
Philathropy and Grantmaking Expert in Residence:
E. Miles Wilson
Miles Wilson is Director of The Grantmaking School at the Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership. Prior to working at the Johnson Center, Miles served 6 years as Vice President of Grants with the Greater Cincinnati Foundation and was a Program Director with the Omidyar Foundation in Redwood City California. Miles’ past also includes nearly 5 years with the Corporation for
National and Community Service where as Senior Program Officer he
managed a large grantmaking portfolio, funding both government and
nonprofits in 10 Midwestern states. Miles brings his experience as director of The Grantmaking School and
an independent nonprofit consultant supporting nonprofit capacity
building, civic engagement, and philanthropic efforts to the Guide as
an Expert in Residence.
